The Eisenhower Suite in Building 500

Schedule a tour of the Eisenhower Suite
in historic Building 500 by calling

In September 1955 President Dwight D. Eisenhower suffered a heart attack while vacationing in Denver. He was rushed to Fitzsimons Army Hospital, where he would spend the next seven weeks. In effect, Eisenhower ran the country from his suite of rooms in the hospital.

The old army hospital at Fitzsimons is now called Building 500. It remains the historical heart of the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Visiting the Eisenhower Suite in Building 500 is a little trip back to the fall of 1955. Restoration of the Suite was done through careful review of photographs, archival notes, and press accounts to ensure that materials, furnishings and features are accurate and compatible with the time period.
