Your Bill from University of Colorado Hospital
Understanding Your Bill
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible service to our patients, we want you to understand the billing process that occurs after your visit to the University of Colorado Hospital.
If you have given us insurance information at the time of registration, we will send a claim to your insurance company. This is a request for your insurance company to pay your bill. We also may send a letter to you confirming this same information – this is not a bill.
Once your insurance company pays its portion of the bill, you may receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). This explanation should describe how your insurance company processed the bill.
You will then receive a statement from the University of Colorado Hospital. This statement will tell you the balance due after the insurance pays its portion of the billed charges. It also will have a summary of charges from the various departments within the hospital that provided your treatment.
Other Professional Charges
As with any hospital visit, you may receive separate bills for professional services that were provided as part of your treatment. Services could include:
- Physician
- Laboratory
- Anesthesia
- Radiology
- Specialty professional services
You also may receive statements for consultation charges if your primary care doctor or attending physician spoke with a specialist such as a radiologist or pathologist about your treatment or test results.
