DeGregori honored by Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Aurora (Feb. 02, 2010) — Dr. James DeGregori, professor and director of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and director of the Molecular Biology program in the CU School of Medicine, was recently honored by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society for his research and fundraising efforts. Dr. DeGregori has an LLS grant for his project, “Development of Mechanism Based Combination Therapies for Bcr-Abl+ leukemias.”
He received a plaque that acknowledges the grant, as well as the Blumenfeld Family, whose donations support his funding. In this manner, LLS provides a personal connection between scientists and donors.
DeGregori is a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center's Cancer Cell Biology Program. His research focuses on understanding the conditions that help initiate leukemias and lymphomas and also finding new treatment targets for a variety of blood cancers. He has developed an evolutionary-based model for cancer development called Adaptive Oncogenesis. He is also known for mentoring young researchers who go on to successful careers.
