The University of Colorado Cancer Center, one of only 39 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, offers opportunities for students who are interested in exploring careers in cancer medical research through our Student Cancer Research Fellowship Program.
The eight week summer fellowships pair students with preceptors from a variety of laboratories and clinics at University of Colorado Hospital, University of Colorado Denver, University of Colorado Boulder and other Denver-area health care institutions. Fellows attend twice-weekly lectures, and they participate in a Poster Session in August.
Fellowships are open to:
- High school seniors
- College undergraduates
- Graduate students
- Medical, dental, nursing and other healthcare students
- Minority students are encouraged to apply
Things to know about UCCC Fellowships
- UCCC Fellows work full-time for eight weeks during the summer.
- Fellows should not combine their research work with other significant work commitments or daytime class work.
- Fellows are paid stipends based on a weekly rate determined by their academic level. The rate is subject to change without notice.
- Stipends are paid in two installments of 75 percent and 25 percent through direct deposit as fellows complete their program requirements.
- Students from the University of Colorado Denver and Metropolitan State College of Denver can opt to receive academic credit instead of a stipend. Please indicate this choice on the front sheet of the application.
- Housing is NOT included in the Fellowship. Fellows are required to find and pay for their own living arrangement for the duration of their program. Please contact Jill Penafiel for a list of housing possibilities.
- Fellows must commit to completing program requirements, including attending orientation, writing a goals and objectives report and presenting a final poster at the Poster Session. Students who cannot attend the Poster Session are required to write a final paper.
