How to Apply to be a Member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center

  1. Read the UCCC Objectives and Membership Guidelines.
  2. Select a program affiliation that best suits your interests.  We encourage you to discuss your interests with your chosen Program Leader in order to learn about Program activities and to provide information to the Leader about your potential role in the Program.
  3. Complete the Membership Application Form.
  4. Submit the Membership Application Form with the following:
    • Full, current CV including information pertaining to your current and pending research support (principal investigator, award #, sponsoring agency, and dates of support)
    • Statement of cancer research interests. The statement should contain sufficient detail to allow the reviewers to understand the rationale for the applicant’s request and provide a fair evaluation. For example, the applicant should specify what types of cancer are impacted by his or her research or clinical activities, whether the research has translational potential, provide the names of other UCCC members with whom he or she collaborates or intends to establish collaborations, and name the specific cores that he or she intends to use, and the purpose for such use (specifically as it applies to the applicant’s cancer research program). It is essential that the statement of cancer research interest address the following three points:
    1. How are you involved in cancer research (basic or clinical)?
    2. How will you contribute to the UCCC mission?
    3. How will you benefit from UCCC membership? (Gaining access to UCCC Shared Core Resources at reduced cost is not acceptable as the sole criterion to apply for membership.)
  5. Email your application to Suzanne Smith, suzanne.smith@uchsc.edu.
  6. Membership applications will be endorsed by the Program Leader, reviewed by the membership committee and forwarded to UCCC Associate Directors for final approval.
  7. Please note the following UCCC Policy: Members are to notify the UCCC Director and the UCCC membership committee chair of any funding received from the tobacco industry. Sponsored research activities funded by the tobacco industry cannot be routed through UCCC.
