Critical Care Pathway Program:

This position is for current UCH employees only, who have been in their current unit for at least two years. 

The Critical Care Pathway program is open to experienced Med/Surg nurses currently employed in a Med/Surg unit at UCH.  The program accepts transfers 3 times a year.  All ICUs, the IMCU, and the ED participate in the program, although not every unit will have an opening for every class. 

The following units are participating this upcoming class of August 2012: 

• MICU
• CV-IMCU
• CICU
• Burn / Trauma ICU
• Neuro ICU
• ED

Application Instructions:

First, meet with your Med/Surg manager to discuss your interest in a critical care position.  HR will then send an evaluation for your manager to complete, and ask for your manager’s recommendation for a transfer.

Then apply for the position online.  The critical care Pathway position will be posted with our other job listings on the HUB.

0. Attach a comprehensive resume.
0. Attach a cover letter explaining your credentials and your interest in the program.
0. Pass an online telemetry test.  You must take this test in the HR office on the 6th floor of Leprino.  You may come in any day between 07:30am - 3:00pm.  Test must be completed my March 31st.

Interview and Selection Process:

• HR will be responsible for verifying eligibility.  You will be notified by HR if you do not meet requirements.
• The Critical Care Pathway selection committee will review all applications and determine which candidates will be interviewed.
• Candidates will interview with the critical care manager and other members of the critical care interviewing team, and then shadow a nurse on that unit.
• Candidates will be informed of a decision a week after interviews are complete.

Eligibility Requirements  

In order to be considered for an opening in the Critical Care Pathway Program, you must meet all of the following requirements:

• Must be a current University of Colorado Hospital employee - former employees, non-employees and agency nurses working at UCH are not eligible for this program.
• Must be currently working on a University of Colorado Hospital Med/Surg unit as a Clinical Nurse, RN
• Must have been in your current unit at least 2 years before applying
• Must be eligible for a transfer per the University of Colorado Hospital's transfer policy (found under the HUB as “Internal Transfers and Promotions”)
• Must have at least two years of nursing experience
• Must apply and submit all requirements by the application deadline.

Employees who are selected for the Critical Care Pathway Program will be required to: 

• Agree to work full-time (.9 FTE) for at least one year after transferring to the ICU
• Agree to work rotating day/night shifts
• Attend and participate in the Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO)
• Transfer to the ICU 
• Lose their current scheduling seniority
