University of Colorado Hospital welcomes you to apply to our Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program.

Program Details

Our one-year, nationally-recognized Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program is comprised of:

  • Extensive (12 to 24 weeks) precepted experience on the graduate nurses' clinical unit. 
  • Paid specialty courses designed for your specific unit that occur throughout the first year. The number of hours spent in these classes varies depending on the unit, and these classes are built into your 36 hour work week. 
  • Paid monthly Graduate Nurse Support Series meetings designed to provide additional curriculum and to support the graduate nurse as you transition from student to competent professional nurse.

Our program is facilitated by expert nurses with special emphasis on:

  • Critical thinking skills 
  • Leadership abilities 
  • Communication skills, written and verbal 
  • Research-based practice 
  • Patient safety 
  • Professional career development

Program dates for 2011 and later have not been determined.


Application Information for February 2010 Program

In order to be considered, all parts of the application must be received by Human Resources by the application deadline. The application deadline for the February 2010 Program is November 18, 2009 5:00 p.m. MST.

Clinical Evaluations will be accepted up until November 25, 2009 if the rest of the application has been received in HR by the application deadline..

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Graduated within the past six months from an accredited nursing baccalaureate program (BSN).

    Candidates graduating from an Associates Degree-to-BSN or LPN-to-BSN are not eligible to apply to our Graduate Nurse Residency Program.

  • Has not worked as an RN or LPN for more than six months.
  • In order to be considered for a Graduate Nurse position in Critical Care (ICUs), a candidate must have completed either a "paid" (CNA, Nurse Intern, etc.) or a "non-paid" (Senior Practicum, Externship, etc.) position in critical care.

  2. Clinical Evaluation (PDFor Word): Please have your most recent clinical instructor email complete this form and return return either by fax, email, or mail. We will continue to accept Clinical Evaluations until November 25, 2009 for the February 2010 program.
  3. Supplemental Application (Word ): Please complete this document and return either by fax, email, or mail.
  4. Unofficial Transcripts: Please submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts by fax, email or mail. We only need copies of transcripts from the school you obtained or will obtain your BSN.

  • If possible, please submit all the parts of your application together. This will prevent parts from becoming separated.

Interviewing

After applications have been closed & reviewed, a Recruiter will contact selected applicants by email to schedule an interview. Applicants will not be contacted for an interview until after the application closing deadline.

In-person interviews for the February 2010 program will begin around December 1, 2009. Tours of units will be offered only to candidates who have interviewed.

All candidates who applied will be notified by email once the positions have been filled.

Offers

Offers are contingent and are not considered official until the following items are received:

  • Final, "official" transcripts from your school with BSN graduation date
  • Current American Heart Association BLS card 
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX exam
  • Colorado RN Licensure or RN licensure from NLC state (more information on RN licensure below) before the program start date. Candidates are highly encouraged to apply for an Colorado licensure when they apply to take the NCLEX. Candidates for the February 22, 2010 program are strongly encouraged to take NCLEX prior to January 29, 2010.

      RN licensure must be verified by February 12, 2010.

  • Passing a post-offer, pre-employment health screen and completion of Hospital background check
