As the Rocky Mountain region's only academic medical center, we are always among the first in the nation to bring advanced medicine to the bedside.
We are long-recognized as one of America's best hospitals by others ranging from U.S. News & World Report to the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
In 2009, UCH was named by Nursing Professionals Magazine as one of the Top 100 Hospitals to Work For. The American Nurses Credentialing Center has designated UCH as a “Magnet” hospital three consecutive times, placing us in the top 1% for nursing excellence in the world. UCH was among the first in the country to receive accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for our post-baccalaureate nurse residency program.
In July of 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked UCH among the top 50 best hospitals in the country in pulmonology (1), nephrology (16), rheumatology (17), cancer (34) and neurology & neurosurgery (50). This is the 17th year the hospital has appeared in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital rankings. In addition, the magazine ranks UCH as the #1 hospital in the Denver metropolitan area.
And in 2011, the University HealthSystem Consortium named UCH "best performing academic hospital for quality" in the country - a distinction awarded again to UCH in 2012.
UCH has become a destination for people who seek excellence in their health care. We’ve been able to take our patients to new heights in world class clinical care, research and education in partnership with the physicians at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
UCH is a 400-bed hospital which admits over 20,000 patients and sees over 600,000 outpatient visits per year.
Construction is underway on our new $400 million, 12-floor expansion tower, to be completed in 2013. The new tower will increase inpatient capacity with space for another 240 beds, additional OR’s, interventional suites and a conference center. A new Emergency Department will be equipped to accommodate 85,000 visits per year.
