As the Rocky Mountain region's only academic medical center, we are always among the best in the nation to bring advanced medicine to the bedside. We are long-recognized as one of America's best hospitals by others ranging from U.S. News & World Report to the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
In 2009, UCH was named by Nursing Professionals Magazine as one of the Top 100 Hospitals to Work For. The American Nurses Credentialing Center has designated UCH as a “Magnet” hospital three consecutive times, placing us in the top 1% for nursing excellence in the world. UCH was among the first in the country to receive accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for our post-baccalaureate nurse residency program.
In July of 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked UCH among the top 50 best hospitals in the country in pulmonology (1), kidney disorders (42), rheumatology (17), cancer (33) and diabetes & endocrinology (48). In addition, nine other high performing specialties were recognized. This is the 18th year the hospital has appeared in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital rankings. In addition, the magazine ranks UCH as the #1 hospital in the Denver metropolitan area and the state of Colorado.
UCH has become a destination for people who seek excellence in their health care. We’ve been able to take our patients to new heights in world class clinical care, research and education in partnership with the physicians at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
UCH is a 410 bed hospital, which admits over 20,000 patients and sees over 700,000 outpatient visits per year.
Our $400 million 12 floor expansion tower, to be completed in Spring 2013, will increase inpatient capacity with space for another 280 beds, additional ORs, interventional suites and a conference center. A new Emergency Department will be equipped to accommodate 85,000 visits per year.
As of February, 2012, University of Colorado Health was created as the only Colorado-based health system that merges the best of both academic medicine and community medicine. The system consists of University of Colorado Hospital, Poudre Valley Hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies and an extensive ambulatory care network.
