The medical team at University of Colorado women's services works together to give every woman the best medical care available in a caring and sensitive environment.

Women's Health Specialists

Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) – A board certified doctor who specializes in women's health care including:

  • Annual exams
  • Pregnancy
  • Family planning
  • Gynecological issues related to the uterus, cervix, menstrual cycles and menopause
  • Delivering babies
  • Performing surgical procedures

Family Medicine Doctor – a doctor trained to care for your entire family.

Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – A certified nurse midwife (CNM) specializes in women's health. All certified nurse midwives at University of Colorado Hospital are registered nurses (RN's) with additional training at the master's or doctorate level.

Certified Nurse Midwife Services:

  • Care for women during pregnancy
  • Deliver babies
  • Perform gynecological exams such as annual exams, breast exams and pap smears
  • Prescribe medication, including birth control
  • Counsel women on all health issues

Nurse Practitioner (NP) – A registered nurse (RN) who has advanced clinical and educational training. An NP can perform physical exams, diagnose and treat health problems, prescribe medication and order lab tests. The NPs in Obstetrics and Gynecology are specially trained in women's health issues related to gynecology and pregnancy.

Registered Nurse (RN) – A nurse registered by the state who can assist you with medical questions and provides education when necessary. RNs in the women’s health clinic are specially in women's health issues related to gynecology and pregnancy.

Other Women's Health Staff

We can refer you to other professionals such as social workers, counselors and nutritionists for additional support when needed.
