The Surgical Weight Loss Center at University of Colorado Hospital uses a team approach to provide you with the care and support you need before and after your weight loss surgery.
Jonathan Schoen, MD
Dr. Schoen is director of the Surgical Weight Loss Center and the Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery Fellowship. He has been with the University of Colorado since beginning his residency with the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. Dr. Schoen was instrumental in the development of the University’s Surgical Weight Loss Center. He is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. His research interests include the mechanisms of weight loss after gastric bypass. Dr. Schoen has received news/media coverage for his excellent work in Bariatric Surgery and Sleeve Gastrectomy.
Kevin Rothchild, MD
Dr. Rothchild’s clinical practice focuses on advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. His teaching activities include the SMART program in Oxford, Ohio and in the Basic Anatomy Laboratory at the Lerner College of Medicine. From a scholarly standpoint, he has contributed to three peer-reviewed publications, presented at the ASS Chicago and Ohio surgical Meetings and delivered a scientific exhibit at the ACS Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Lisa Kassel, RD, CNSD
Lisa, a registered dietitian, is currently serving as one of the Certified Nutrition Support Dietitians for the Surgical Weight Loss Center at the University of Colorado Hospital. She has been with University Hospital since 1992 and has worked with the Surgical Weight Loss Center for the past four years. She instructs and mentors dietetic interns, medical students, nursing students and GI fellows. She also teaches bariatric classes to Registered Nurses.
Breana Mitchell, NP
Breana is the Nurse Practitioner for the Surgical Weight Loss Center. She has ten years of nursing experience, including two more years as a nurse practitioner. She earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1997, her BS in nursing at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1999, where she received her Masters of Science degree in nursing in 2007.
