Tests for Eczema
After examining your skin, your doctor may use a patch test to determine if your eczema is caused by allergies.
Eczema Treatments
The most common treatment for eczema is moisturizing the skin. You can use lukewarm water to remove dry and scaly patches. Oils, creams and ointments all help to keep the skin moist and relieve the discomfort of eczema.
Other treatments include:
- Regulating diet, particularly to eliminate foods that cause allergies
- Getting allergy shots prescribed by your doctor
- Using over-the-counter or prescription corticosteroid creams to reduce inflammation
- Using oral corticosteroids for severe eczema
- Receiving doses of ultraviolet light
- Taking antihistamines to control itching
