Your doctor may diagnose autoimmune bulbous disease by drawing blood. The diagnosis may require a skin lesion biopsy. During this procedure, your doctor removes a piece of skin and examines it to determine if you need further treatment. Sometimes the entire lesion has to be removed. A biopsy can usually be performed in the office with local anesthesia.

• Oral antibiotics
• Niacin (a B complex vitamin), which helps the skin stay healthy. Niacin is usually given with the antibiotic tetracycline
• Anti-inflammatory drugs called corticosteroids, taken by mouth or injection or applied to the skin
