Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at University of Colorado Hospital
What is a MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a large magnet and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs and structures inside the body. An MRI often may give information not shown on an x-ray, ultrasound or computed tomography scan (CT) scan.
It may use contrast material to help show abnormal tissues more clearly.
An MRI may be used for detecting problems in many different parts of the body:
- Head
- Chest / Breast
- Blood vessels
- Abdomen and pelvis
- Bones and joints
- Spine
