Epilepsy: Patient Education from University of Colorado Hospital

Living with Epilepsy

There is no cure for epilepsy, but medicines can help control seizures. Talk to your doctor about medicines that might help and any side effects that may result from taking medication.

Most people who are diagnosed with epilepsy live very normal lives. Some people may experience emotional problems and depression.

Because seizures can interfere with a person’s independence, it’s important to seek social support from family and friends to learn to deal with situations when seizures may occur.

Epilepsy: Getting a Second Opinion

People who suffer from epilepsy may choose to seek additional medical advice from another doctor or specialist.
