Osteoporosis: Patient Education from University of Colorado Hospital

Living with Osteoporosis

The best way to manage Osteoporosis is take prevention steps before it begins. The most effective prevention steps include:

  • Adequate calcium and Vitamin D intake
  • Regular exercise
  • Stop smoking
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine intake
  • Only use steroids and thyroid medication when absolutely necessary

Once you have Osteoporosis preventing it from getting worse is one of the main approaches. In some cases, certain medications and hormone replacement therapies can be used to prevent further bone mass loss.
