Blood Donor Requirements
The hospital screens all donors at the time of donation. The basic requirements for donors are:
- At least 18 years of age (or 17 with written consent of parent or guardian)
- Weight of at least 110 pounds
- Feeling well and healthy
- No tattoos or piercings
- No antibiotics in the previous 48 hours
- No dentist visits in the previous 24 hours
- No aspirin or products containing aspirin in the previous 36 hours. This requirement applies to platelet donation only
- Donors should also allow about one hour for donation of whole blood and two hours for platelet donation.
