Blood Donor Requirements
The hospital screens all donors at the time of donation. The basic requirements for donors are:
- At least 18 years of age (or 17 with written consent of parent or guardian)
- Weight of at least 110 pounds
- Feeling well and healthy
- No tattoos or piercings in the past year
- No antibiotics in the previous 48 hours
- No dentist visits in the previous 24 hours
- No aspirin or products containing aspirin in the previous 48 hours. This requirement applies to platelet donation only.
Donors should allow about one hour for donation of whole blood and two hours for platelet donation.
