Residential Extended Care

Time is often the best friend of an addiction patient. Our structured and intensive Residential Extended Care program is designed to give patients more time, help them make a successful transition into the social system and build upon the seeds of recovery planted in a 30-day treatment program.

Returning to the community

"I am so thankful to CeDAR and their Residential Extended Care program. The real healing began once I was done with primary care and able to focus directly on my addiction while learning how to be a part of the community again...I will be forever grateful for the treatment that enabled me to re-create and restore the loving, healthy relationship with my family that I enjoy today."

Dani A.

This program requires a minimum stay of 60 days and is available to patients ages 24 and older who have completed an approved residential program.

A proven process for recovery

During Residential Extended Care, patients attend daily 12-Step meetings, volunteer, work, and also rebuild family relationships. The program consists of active therapy five-days a week, and less intensive therapy on the weekends. Throughout this repetitive process, the words recovery and life become interchangeable, and patients begin to realize that a positive life is one that is always in recovery.

Today, 90 days in treatment is considered the "Gold Standard" of addiction care. By staying and working through treatment for an additional 60 days (after 30-day residential care), patients are further prepared to re-enter the real world, and live a positive life without the use of drugs or alcohol.

Our structured care program

Patients in Residential Extended Care are given an individualized treatment plan to help them reach their goals and achieve an addiction-free lifestyle.

Goals of Residential Extended Care include:

  • Establishing long-term recovery and relapse prevention goals
  • Identifying self-defeating or compulsive behaviors
  • Beginning the transition back to the community by further developing the tools of recovery learned in primary care

The program includes daily lectures, groups and patient-facilitated activities. In addition, residents begin to develop outside connections in the recovery community through mandatory 12-Step meetings, both on and off campus.

Extending your stay

After the initial 60-day stay, individuals may choose to continue in the program for increments of 30 days (to a maximum of 180 days). As they continue in the process, patients will:

  • Spend progressively fewer hours in a direct treatment environment and earn more independent living time, including increased freedom with passes, visitors and personal decisions
  • Meet with their primary counselor on a weekly basis to review progress and recovery goals, and work with their sponsor as part of a daily 12-Step program
  • Continue their reintegration into society by solidifying sobriety and recovery plans and becoming more independent
  • Begin or continue their employment and do volunteer work or pursue educational opportunities
