CeDAR's High-Dose Methadone Detox/Treatment Program

Developed in response to patient need, and utilizing the vast resources of University of Colorado Hospital, CeDAR's High Dose Methadone Detox/Treatment program is now in place – and already demonstrating positive results.

Leaving methadone behind

Depending on the patient's duration of use and amount administered, withdrawal from methadone can be a long and uncomfortable process.

Our staff closely monitors the patient during detoxification for withdrawal symptoms, which can include anxiety, sleeplessness, weakness or drowsiness, muscle aches, and digestive tract irregularities.

Coupling ADU and Residential Treatment

Withdrawal from methadone does not cure opiate dependence. Without adjunctive treatment, relapse is nearly certain.

CeDAR's approach to methadone withdrawal involves transition to Suboxone, stabilization and gradual tapering of the dose while the patient is receiving intensive residential treatment in our Primary and Extended Care programs.

The withdrawal process combined with treatment is slow and methodical. For patients' safety and effectiveness, CeDAR requires a 90-day commitment upon admission to the methadone detox program.

The 90 days include an anticipated five to 10 days in our Assessment Detoxification Unit (ADU), a minimum of three weeks of intensive Residential Treatment, and the remaining days in Residential Extended care, where the patient receives both substance abuse treatment and Suboxone taper.

Focused, individualized care

Because CeDAR's capacity is 50 patients, the care provided is highly individualized, and clinicians are able to provide plenty of one-on-one attention. Our individual patient-to-counselor ratio is 5 to 1 – one of the best in the industry.
