Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) Course
This two-day trauma course blends didactic lecture related to trauma along with psychomotor assessment in skill stations. The learner is expected to meet both criteria of passing a written examination in conjunction with completing the mandatory skills in trauma nursing process and implementation of this process.
The class participant will be able to:
- Identify the common mechanisms of injury associated with trauma.
- Describe the pathophysiologic changes as a basis for signs and symptoms.
- Describe the nursing assessment of patients with trauma.
- Identify appropriate nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes for the trauma patient based on the assessment data.
- Describe the appropriate intervention for patients with trauma.
- Describe mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions for patients with trauma.

TNCC Verification:
Verification will be issued from Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) upon successful completion of the evaluated psychomotor skill stations and the multiple choice examination. Expiration of verification will occur four years from the first day of the month in which the card was issued. ENA and University of Colorado Hospital do not offer certification on any level as related to completion of this course. Individual institutions are responsible for determining their own requirements for assessing clinical competency.
Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH's):
CECH's are awarded from ENA based on hours attended, regardless of performance during evaluation. You may follow up with ENA at 1-847-460-4123 or education@ena.org.
Payment Terms – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Participants who are not UCH Emergency Department nurses are required to pay $235.00 upon registration. Registrations will be DENIED if made without payment unless you are a UCH Emergency Department nurse. The registration deadline is 6 weeks prior to the course date, at which point books will be mailed to registrants to allow time for self study. Self study is required prior to attendance.
Cancellation/Refund Policy:
Your tuition minus an $80.00 processing will be refunded if notified in writing 6 weeks prior to the course. There will be no tuition refunds made to participants after a book has been distributed.
For UCH Emergency Department nurses only: Unapproved cancellations or No Shows after October 26, 2009 will be charged a $105.00 service fee. If you cannot attend for an unforeseen event or emergency, please call 720-848-5160 at least 24 hours prior to the class. Reasons for cancellation will be evaluated for approval.
University of Colorado Hospital reserves the right to cancel an offering at any time. Should this happen, a full refund will be made. Tuition cannot be transferred to another course.
Parking Information:
Parking at the Anschutz Medical Campus is limited or by permit only. Parking for this activity is available in Cheyenne Wells parking lot, located on East 17th Place North of the Leprino Building . Hourly parking rates apply with a $5.00 all day parking maximum. Cash/Coin/Credit Card accepted. Handicapped visitor parking is available in the Cheyenne Wells parking lot.
