Nursing Professional Development Certification Preparation Course
This two-day Certification Preparation Course will prepare participants for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) generalist certification examination in nursing professional development. This course includes an extensive review of the staff development curriculum and a practice exam. This course is a good foundation course for those new to staff development in addition to those wishing to sit for the certification examination.
Course Objectives:
- Describe strategies to apply the principles of adult learning into educational activities
- Examine the theoretical components of a staff development department
- Evaluate teaching and learning methodologies
- Identify the components of the change process and change theories that can be used to facilitate a change project
- Apply the domains of learning in educational activities
- Discuss legal and ethical issues related to nursing professional development
- Examine the processes for planning and conducting a needs assessment.
- Discuss characteristics and teaching strategies for working with generation X and Y nurses.
- Explore various instructional methods and learning resources for implementing an educational program.
- Apply the educational design conceptual model in creating a professional development program.
- Analyze various methods used in evaluating learning and program effectiveness.
- Describe the key components of marketing, budgeting and record-keeping.
- Discuss continuing education program accreditation and approval
- Detail the coordination of learning activities.
- Explore performance improvement methodologies
- Discuss the responsibilities of the nursing professional development practitioner.
- Compare and contrast the roles in nursing professional development.
- Explore the roles in given case scenarios

Instructor:
Jo-Ann R. Robinson, DNP, RNC, BC, APRN, BC
Jo-Ann has vast experience in staff development, practice and leadership. She received her doctorate of Nursing Practice from University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey where she conducted an original research study to determine if there is a relationship between the generation of a nurse and their learning style. She is certified in Nursing Professional Development, Inpatient Obstetrics and as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Jo-Ann has published numerous articles and presented nationally on various staff development topics as well as writing a chapter for NNSDO’s Core Curriculum for Staff Development (3rd ed). She is the president of the Bergen/Passaic Nurse Educators Group, a NNSDO affiliate. Jo-Ann is a Director of Education at Bergen Regional Medical Center and part-time faculty at Dominican College’s School of Nursing. Jo-Ann received NNSDO’s 2008 Excellence in the Role of the Professional Development Leader award and was recognized for nursing excellence in the area of nursing education by the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior services. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Pi Lambda Theta, the International Honor Society in Education.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:
Your tuition minus a $10 processing fee will be refunded if notified in writing 7 days prior to course. University of Colorado Hospital reserves the right to cancel an offering. A full refund would be made. Tuition cannot be transferred to another course.
Parking Information:
Parking at the Anschutz Medical Campus is limited or by permit only. Parking for this activity is available in Cheyenne Wells parking lot, located on East 17th Place North of the Leprino Building. Hourly parking rates, $5.00 all day parking maximum. Cash/Coin/Credit Card accepted. Handicapped visitor parking available in Cheyenne Wells parking lot.
