COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This one day program is aimed at providing a review of neonatal physiology and updating knowledge base of RNs caring for infants in a well baby setting.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Identify the primary features of fetal circulation and describe the physiologic changes that occur at birth, both adaptive and maladaptive.
  • Describe the outcomes of a physical assessment of the newborn based on maternal history, normal characteristics, and variations from normal.
  • Describe behavioral states, recognize normal activity, and state nursing interventions used during transition.
  • Review glucose utilization, identify risk factors and describe strategies for management of hypoglycemia in the newborn.
  • Review physiology of bilirubin metabolism and discuss the management of hyperbilirubinemia in the newborn.
  • Identify the sick newborn through stabilization and transfer.
  • Discuss topics related to care of the term newborn.

Continuing Nursing Education Credit: 7.0 continuing nursing education contact hours will be awarded to participants who attend the course in its entirety and complete an evaluation.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Your tuition minus a $10.00 processing will be refunded if notified in writing 7 days prior to the course. There will be no tuition refunds granted after this date for non-attendance.

University of Colorado Hospital reserves the right to cancel an offering at any time. Should this happen, a full refund will be made. Tuition cannot be transferred to another course.


University of Colorado Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Parking at the Anschutz Medical Campus is by fee or by permit only. Parking for this activity is available in the Ignacio, Georgetown, or Cheyenne Wells parking lots. All are indicated with a red X on the attached map. Cash/Coin/Credit Card accepted. Handicapped visitor parking is also available.
