This is part of the cardiovascular assessment of a patient. The purpose of this one-day course is to assist the registered nurse and other healthcare providers in understanding and interpreting the 12-Lead EKG and the changes often seen on it.

Prerequisite: Knowledge of Basic Dysrhythmias is required in order to attend this course.

Payment is due at the time of registration. To make a payment via check, download the registration form at the bottom of this page, complete the 2nd page, and mail to the address indicated with a check.

Walk up registrations may be accepted if space permits. However, an additional $10 fee will be required. No exceptions.

The 12 Lead EKG

 

The 12-Lead EKG is frequently ordered as part of the cardiovascular assessment of a patient. The purpose of this one-day course is to assist the registered nurse and other healthcare providers in understanding and interpreting the 12-Lead EKG and the changes often seen on it.

Prerequisite: Knowledge of Basic Dysrhythmias is required in order to attend this course.

The class participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the features of a normal 12-Lead EKG
  2. Determine the mean QRS axis in a 12-Lead EKG
  3. State the causes of right and left axis deviation
  4. Describe the changes in the EKG associated with myocardial ischemia, injury and infarct and identify which area of the heart is involved
  5. Describe changes associated with pericarditis and ventricular aneurysm.
  6. Identify changes seen with atrial and ventricular hypertrophy
  7. Identify features of the EKG seen with Bundle Branch Blocks and Fascicular Blacks
  8. Describe changes in the EKG seen with electrolyte abnormalities

Continuing Nursing Education Credit: 6.5 continuing nursing education contact hours will be awarded to participants who attend the course in its entirety and complete an evaluation.


Payment Terms - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Payment is due upon registration. Registrations will not be accepted without payment. Walk-in registrations may be accepted if the class is not full and will require an additional $10 charge for materials.

 


Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Your tuition minus an $10.00 processing will be refunded if notified in writing 7 days prior to the course. There will be no tuition refunds granted after this date for non-attendance.

University of Colorado Hospital reserves the right to cancel an offering at any time. Should this happen, a full refund will be made. Tuition cannot be transferred to another course.


University of Colorado Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Parking Information:

Parking at the Anschutz Medical Campus is by fee or by permit only. Parking for this activity is available in the Ignacio, Georgetown, or Cheyenne Wells parking lots. All are indicated with a red X on the attached map. Cash/Coin/Credit Card accepted. Handicapped visitor parking is also available.
