About Men for the Cure
The Men For The Cure dinner was co-founded 12 years ago by philanthropist Sharon Magness Blake and CBS 4 news and weather anchor Ed Greene in response to the loss of a friend's wife to breast cancer.
Over the last decade, the event has raised over $1 million to advance leading-edge treatments and innovations in patient care for breast cancer patients at University of Colorado Hospital.
This gentlemen-only dinner typically attracts 400 or more attendees each year and is backed by some of Denver’s most influential icons. The Honorable John Hickenlooper, The Honorable Ed Tauer, Peter H. Coors, John Elway, and UCH President and CEO Bruce Schroffel are currently serving as honorary chairs.
The event has also attracted some big name keynote speakers including former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, former Denver Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan, sportswriter Rick Reilly, Major League Baseball pitchers Goose Gossage and Dave Dravecky, and other sports celebrities.
University of Colorado Hospital Diane O'Connor Thompson Breast Center
The Diane O’Connor Thompson Breast Center is part of the University of Colorado Cancer Center, one of the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the Rocky Mountain region, and one of only 40 in the United States.
UCH possesses a team of internationally respected breast cancer physicians, researchers, specialists, and surgeons dedicated to finding a cure.
As a result, our five-year survival rates for all stages of breast cancer are up to 20% higher than state, regional and national averages.
With this knowledge, UCH breast cancer patients can begin to turn their worry and fear into determination, perseverance and hope, regardless of the stage of the disease at the time of diagnosis.
