Cancer Center Expansion Campaign at University of Colorado Hospital

Help us welcome more who hear unwelcome news

Too many people hear the words "you have cancer." Maybe you know someone who has heard those words. Maybe you've heard them yourself.

It's a serious pronouncement. But thanks to terrific progress made by a handful of top cancer centers, including the University of Colorado Cancer Center, more and more people who hear those words go on to lead long, active, productive lives.

The Need to Expand
Since opening on the Anschutz Medical Campus in 2001, the CU Cancer Center has realized a 100 percent increase in patient visits.  And despite advances in cancer research and treatment – many of which have been developed by oncologists and researchers at the CU Cancer Center, it simply does not have the capacity to deliver the sheer volume of cancer patients seeking leading-edge therapies and treatment at the CU Cancer Center.

To meet patient demand and ensure that all future cancer patients seeking treatment at the CU Cancer Center can gain access to the best care available, construction has commenced on an expansion to the existing Cancer Center.  The University of Colorado Hospital Foundation is in the midst of a $20M capital campaign to fund the expansion that will add 52,000 square feet of new and renovated space, and allow our physicians to treat and additional 11,450 patients per year.

One of the Nation’s Leading Cancer Centers

The CU Cancer Center is an invaluable resource to the citizens of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.  CU Cancer Center patients receive care from internationally renowned and respected oncologists who are at the forefront in the fight against cancer.  As a result of their expertise and the groundbreaking research being conducted on campus, survival rates for cancer patients treated at CU Cancer Center battling wide arrays of cancer in various stages are up to 30 percent higher than state, regional and national averages. With this knowledge, University of Colorado Hospital breast cancer patients can turn their worry and fear into determination and hope, regardless of the stage of the disease at time of diagnosis.

How you can help us expand our world-class care

The University of Colorado Hospital Foundation has raised over half of our $20M goal through the generous philanthropy of individuals, foundations and corporations.  If you are interested in making a significant gift to fund the expansion and ultimately improve the lives of our patients, please contact Josh Thiel at 720.848.7864 to learn more about the expansion, cancer program and expansion naming opportunities.
