Hearts of All Ages 2010

On Valentine's Day, hundreds of families had fun together while supporting a worthy cause. They went to Wings Over the Rockies to help raise money for University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

This is the third annual “Hearts of All Ages” event and it continues to grow each year. About 850 people attended this year's event, up from 600 last year.

The event boasted kid friendly food, live music, face painters, caricature artists and photos with Thunder from the Denver Broncos. Kids of all ages also had a variety of educational areas to choose from including rocket building stations and a flight simulator computer lab. Guests were also able to get in the cockpit of several different kinds of jumbo jets.

Making Valentine's Day family-friendly

The history of the event goes back to when co-chair Peter H. Coors and his wife, Marilyn, felt mixed emotions about leaving their small children while they went out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. He says he always wanted to find a way to spend the day as a family and celebrate together.

Mr. Coors believed his work at University of Colorado Hospital would be an opportunity to come up with a family event and, at the same time, create a fundraiser for the hospital. With the help of event co-chair Sharon Magness-Blake, Coors’ idea for a family-friendly Valentine’s Day became “Hearts of All Ages."

Event proceeds benefit different areas

Proceeds from “Hearts of All Ages” go to a different specialty area at UCH each year.

Money raised at the 2010 event will go towards the expansion of the University of Colorado Cancer Center. Since the cancer center moved to the Anschutz Medical Campus in 2001, the need for the expert care provided by UCH has almost doubled.  UCH would like to expand so it can continue providing patients with the latest treatments and most experienced physicians in the Rocky Mountain region.

The co-chairs for this year's event were Pete and Marilyn Coors, Sharon Magness Blake and Ernie Blake, and Steve and Shannon Bangert.
