Board of Directors: University of Colorado Hospital Authority

The University of Colorado Hospital is a financially and legally independent entity overseen by an eleven-member Board of Directors. Our current board members are a distinguished blend of academic, business and medical leaders.

M. Roy Wilson, M.D., M.S.

Dr. Wilson has served as Chancellor, University of Colorado Denver, and as Chairman of the University of Colorado Hospital Board of Directors since July, 2006. He represents Congressional District 1 on the board.

Background – He is an elected member of the Institutes of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Ophthalmological Society, and the Glaucoma Society of the International Congress of Ophthalmology. Dr. Wilson received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his Master of Science in epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health. He performed both his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wilson was named president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2003. In 1998, he was appointed dean of the School of Medicine at Creighton University, and then served as both dean and vice president for Health Sciences from 1999-2003. Prior to that time, he was professor of ophthalmology both at the Jules Stein Eye Institute of UCLA and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science.

Elizabeth Slifer

Ms. Slifer is founder and currently Creative Director and CEO of Slifer Designs in Edwards. She represents Congressional District 2 on our board.

Background – Ms. Slifer is a native of Jacksonville, Florida but has resided in Vail for 24 years. She holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina and a M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. She presently serves as Chairwoman of the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council, the Board of Directors of the Vail Valley Chamber and Tourism Bureau, the Board of Directors for the OK Corral (an affiliate of the Hole in the Wall Camps), as well as a member of the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business Advisory Council. Prior to founding Slifer Designs, Ms. Slifer worked as Marketing Manager for Velsicol Chemical Company and worked for President Carter's administration. She is married to Rod Slifer, partner of Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate and Mayor of Vail. They have a teenage daughter, Alexandra.

Steven A. Dawes

Mr. Dawes is CEO of Dawes & Associates, a property management company in Steamboat Springs. He represents Congressional District 3 on the board.

Background – Mr. Dawes is a native of New York but has resided in Steamboat Springs for more than 30 years. Mr. Dawes graduated from the University of Denver with a B.A. in Political Science. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series, Ice Rink Advisory Committee, Steamboat Springs Little League and the Local Marketing District. Mr. Dawes also served on the Board of the Yampa Valley Medical Center for 16 years and was the President of the Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley.

Richard L. Monfort

Mr. Monfort is Vice Chairman of the Colorado Rockies baseball team, Chairman of the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees, and is on the Board of Economic Development for the State of Colorado. He also owns and operates many commercial investments and commercial real estate in Denver. He represents Congressional District 4 on the board.

Background – Mr. Monfort previously served as the vice president of various divisions within Monfort of Colorado. In 1987 he became President of Monfort of Colorado, at which time the company merged with ConAgra Inc. in a $365 million stock swap. Mr. Monfort retired in the Spring of 1994 as President of ConAgra Red Meat Company.

Jerry G. Rutledge

Mr. Rutledge is the President and owner of Rutledge's Inc., an upscale men's clothing store in Colorado Springs, which he opened in 1967. He currently serves on The Chancellor's Roundtable at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, as well on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Science, Space and Security Center. He represents Congressional District 5 on the board.

Background – Mr. Rutledge is a graduate of the University of Colorado and served on the CU Board of Regents from 1995 to 2007.  He was twice elected Chair and three times elected Vice Chair of the Board of Regents. He guided the University through three presidential leadership transitions and was granted the title of Regent Emeritus of the University of Colorado in recognition of his dedicated and distinguished service to the Board, the University community and the state of Colorado. He is a founding member of the CU-Colorado Springs Business School Associates, the Board of Directors of the Golden Buffalo Scholarship Fund, and the CU-Colorado Springs Engineering Business Advisory Board. He serves on the Board of American National Bank, and on the Board of Trustees of three Clough Global Mutual Funds. He is an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs and has served as a Trustee of the church. Mr. Rutledge remains an active member in the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and in the Colorado Springs Economic Development Council.

Robert Moore

Mr. Moore is currently the Vice President for Finance and Administration/Treasurer for Colorado College. He represents Congressional District 6 on the board.

Background – Mr. Moore was born and raised in Phoenix and received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University. He received his Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. Before coming to the University of Colorado, Mr. Moore worked for the Joint Budget Committee, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, was Treasurer and Vice President for Finance and Operations at the Colorado School of Mines, and, most recently, was the Vice President of Budget and Finance for the University of Colorado.

Timothy Travis

Mr. Travis is President and CEO of Eaton Metal Products Company of Denver, and represents Congressional District 7 on the board.

Background – Mr. Travis also is active in many civic organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America and the Colorado Council on Economic Education. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Business Bank, STICO Insurance Company, and El Pomar Foundation. His interests include Ducks Unlimited, Winchester Club of America, Denver Broncos and the National Western Stock Show Association.

Bruce D. Benson

Mr. Benson is currently the President, University of Colorado and Executive in Residence and Professional Attendance at the Business School at University of Colorado Denver. He is an at-large member of the board.

Background – Before he was named CU President in 2008, Mr. Benson was active in a variety of educational, civic, political and business activities. In 1965, he founded Benson Mineral Group, an oil and gas exploration and production company. The company also has been involved in geothermal power, real estate development and management, banking, mortgage servicing, cable television, restuarants, manufacturing and trucking, among other areas. Mr. Benson has sat on the boards of several companies, including United States Exploration, Inc. (chair), American Land Lease Corp. and Asset Investors Corp. He served as chairman of the Metropolitan State College Board of Trustees and was chairman of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. In 1999 Mr. Benson was awarded CU's University Medal, and the university's Ira C. Rothgerber Award in 2003. He has served in many political roles, both locally and nationally. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where he also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

Peter H. Coors

Mr. Coors is Chairman of Coors Brewing Company and Vice Chairman of Molson-Coors, and is an at-large member of the board.

Background – Mr. Coors graduated from the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. and attended Cornell University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. He earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Denver. Mr. Coors’ professional career in the brewing business follows a Coors tradition that has spanned more than a century and five generations of Coors family members. He has served in a number of positions at the company.

In 1993, Mr. Coors was named Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Coors Brewing Company. In 2002, he was named Chairman, Coors Brewing Company and Chairman of Adolph Coors Company. His outside corporate boards of director memberships include U.S. Bancorp, Inc. and Energy Corporation of America. He is a trustee of the Adolph Coors Foundation and the Castle Rock Foundation.

His numerous and diverse civic responsibilities include serving as a trustee and member of the executive board of the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the National Western Stock Show Association executive committee. He also is a member of the International Chapter of Young Presidents Organization, a member of University of Denver ’s Daniels School of Business Advisory Board, and a trustee for the Seeds of Hope Foundation. Mr. Coors also serves as Chairman for the Vision 2006 Campaign for Johnson & Wales University at Denver.

Active in wildlife conservation, he serves on the boards of several conservation groups. Mr. Coors also is a former national president and chairman of Ducks Unlimited, and is a member of the National Wildlife Centennial Commission. Mr. Coors is also Chairman of the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.

Richard D. Krugman, MD

Currently Dr. Krugman is Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs for the University of Colorado Denver. He is an at-large member of the board.

Background  – Dr. Krugman is a graduate of Princeton University and earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine. A board-certified pediatrician, he completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

From 1981 to 1992 Dr. Krugman served as Director of the C. Henry Kempe National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, and he has gained international prominence in the field of child abuse. He became Dean of the University of Colorado School of Medicine in March 1992.

In his current role of Vice Chancellor at UCD, he supports the deans of Dental Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health, as well as the graduate school for the Health Sciences campus. He oversees all clinical programs of the University at its five affiliated hospitals. In addition, the Center on Aging, the Center of Bioethics and Humanities, the Colorado Area Health Education (AHEC) system and Risk Management report to Dr. Krugman.

Dr. Krugman is a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). He is President of University Physicians, Inc., the CU School of Medicine faculty practice plan. He serves on the board of the The Children's Hospital of Denver and has served on the boards of Princeton University, Denver Health and Hasbro Children's Foundation.

Randall B. Meacham, M.D.

Dr. Meacham is President of the Medical Staff at the University of Colorado Hospital and an Associate Professor and Chief, Division of Urology, Urology Residency Program Director, Vice Chair Department of Surgery, Director of Male Reproductive Medicine, Medicine and Surgery at the University of Colorado at Denver School of Medicine. He is an at-large member of the board.

Background – Dr. Meacham was elected the President of the Medical Staff for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2007 and ending December 31, 2009. He is an honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Meacham completed his medical and residency training at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
