University of Colorado Hospital to Begin Restricting Visitors
Restrictions for Visitors Under 12 to Prevent Spread of H1N1 and Seasonal Influenza Go Into Effect Wednesday, October 21
AURORA, Colo. (Oct.19, 2009) – In an effort to protect patients, their families and our staff this flu season, University of Colorado Hospital will begin restricting visitors under the age of 12. The visitor restrictions will go into effect Wednesday, October 21, 2009.
“University of Colorado Hospital does not take the decision to restrict visitors under the age of 12 lightly,” said Bruce Schroffel, CEO of UCH.
“Our patients and the quality of their care is our highest priority and we want to ensure that we minimize the chances of spreading H1N1 and seasonal influenza among our patient population and our staff.” said Schroffel. “We understand the restrictions may present some challenges for some patients and their families. But we believe it is in the best interest of our patients and our staff to put these restrictions in place.”
For visitors with flu symptoms
University of Colorado Hospital also asks that anyone experiencing flu symptoms (fever, cough, muscle aches, stuffy nose, vomiting and diarrhea) refrain from visiting any patient in the hospital.
Many of our patients are highly susceptible to infection. Visitor restrictions will be enforced and the hospital will not allow children unattended in waiting areas.
As the H1N1 and seasonal influenza strains continue to unfold in the community, it is possible that restrictions at University of Colorado Hospital will change. If you are planning to see someone, please go to the hospital website at www.uch.edu before visiting for updated visitor information.
